What is Prosthodontics?
A Prosthodontist is a dental specialist who is skilled in the replacement and restoration of missing and broken down teeth with a natural looking substitute that also restores dental function. A Prosthodontist is trained to deal with complicated and simple restorations of the whole mouth as well as treating oral deformities. Common procedures treated by a Prosthodontist may include complete and partial dentures, fixed bridges, crowns, dental implants, veneers and more.
After completing four years of dental school, Prosthodontists receive an extra three years of specialized training in an American Dental Association (ADA) accredited graduate program. Prosthodontics is one of the nine dental specialties recognized by the ADA. Only 2% of dentists in the United States have achieved the Prosthodontics designation.
